SDMS Commences Legal Proceeding Over Discontent With Teacher Recruitment Process

The Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha has commenced legal proceedings to challenge the decision of the Teaching Service Commission and the Ministry of Education for what it calls unlawfully or unconstitutionally altering the method of recruiting teachers for Denominational Schools.

In a pre-action protocol letter, SDMS Attorney Kiel Taklalsingh said the crux of the SDMS’s complaint concerns the lawfulness of a new method of recruiting teachers for Denominational Primary Schools, introduced by the TSC, which is contrary to the terms of the Concordat.

Through its attorney the SDMS says by way of a letter on November 25 2022, the TSC communicated its decision to depart from and prohibit the settled practice of Denominational Boards firstly interviewing applicants for teaching positions, assessing them, and thereafter submitting a list of desirable candidates to the TSC for approval.
