Scrap Iron Dealers Association Tells Collectors To Shape Up Or Get Out Of The Industry

The Scrap Iron Dealers Association is urging members of the public not to purchase material from collectors who do not meet criteria being introduced or operate in a professional way.

New measures include collectors obtaining a sticker which will soon be issued at various locations across the country, being properly attired and no purchase of stolen items.

President of the Association, Allan Ferguson, said the vehicles collecting material must also be suitable for doing trade.

Mr Ferguson said the government has indicated no new licenses will be granted before the April 14th this year.

The government commenced efforts to regularise the industry and bring about order following numerous incidents of copper theft.

Speaking at a news briefing held on Tuesday, Mr Ferguson said people in the sector should shape up or get out.

Meanwhile, Vice President of the Association, Eross Seejattan, said some exporters have not been complying with the rules, adding that enforcement must be brought to the forefront to ensure it’s improvement.
