Cultural Fraternity Mourns The Loss Of Veteran Calypsonian Axeback

The calypso fraternity is mourning yet again following the passing of veteran calypsonian and cultural activist Rawle “Axeback” Titus.

The Tobago-born Titus passed away on Monday, aged 80.

Mr Titus was also a cultural anthropologist and writer.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts said he was well known for his involvement in the Prime Minister’s Best Village Competition.

He contributed significantly to the development of the Tobago Heritage Festival in the areas of playwriting, choreography and dance.

Minister Randall Mitchell said “Rawle Titus will be remembered for his devotion to passing on the history of Trinidad and Tobago’s culture to the generations after him.

Mr Mitchell said his years of work as an educator, mentor and performer have undoubtedly shaped the talents of many within the cultural fraternity today and, as such, we will always be grateful for his sterling contributions.”
