Rwandan President: CARICOM most vibrant regional organisation in developing world

President of the Republic of Rwanda, His Excellency Paul Kagame has congratulated the Caribbean Community for distinguishing itself “as one of the most vibrant regional integration organizations in the developing world.”

He made the comments during a plenary session on day two of the 45th Regular Meeting of the CARICOM Heads of Government held at the Hyatt Regency, Trinidad on Wednesday 05th July.

During his address to regional leaders, President Kagame thanked Prime Minister of Dominica and Chairman of CARICOM, the Hon Roosevelt Skerrit for the invitation and thanked Prime Minister Dr the Hon Keith Rowley for his country’s hospitality.

President Kagame said, “As smaller countries, we gather strength by working together in our regional organizations, integrating our economies, and sharing infrastructure costs. Building on the cooperation within our respective regions, however imperfect it might be, we are in a good position to collaborate across regions.”

Prime Minister Rowley responded to the President’s remarks saying that both CARICOM and Africa are inextricably bound by common interest and face the same resistance. Dr Rowley said President Kagame’s presence indicates a willingness of Africa to work with CARICOM and sends a message to the world that we are not insignificant and will not accept as our portion perpetual injustice.
