Public Utilities Minister dismisses Opposition’s claims of Water rate increase

The Opposition questioned whether there will be job cuts at the Water and Sewage Authority.

Member of Parliament for Couva South, Rudy Indarsingh, highlighted the issue during Wednesday’s proceedings at the Standing Finance Committee sitting.

MP Indarsingh wanted to know how many workers at WASA will be affected by job cuts.

Member of Parliament for Oropouche West, Davendranath Tancoo, said there is a reduction of forty-five million dollars in the recently presented national budget under the category salaries and coast of living allowance.

MP Tancoo claimed this reduction implies a cut in jobs.

However, Minister of Public Utilities, Marvin Gonzales, held firm to his position regarding staffing at WASA.
