Pregnant women to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine

Pregnant women who have made it past their first trimester will soon be given preference to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

The decision was taken following a meeting on Tuesday with PAHO, CARPHA, Obstetricians and Gynocologists in both the public and private sectors.

Last week the CDC in the United States announced what it said was new evidence that strengthened its recomendation that pregnant women receive an MRNA vaccine.

Technical Director of the Epidemiology Division, Dr. Avery Hinds said there was consensus at Tuesday’s meeting on the use of the Pfizer vaccine for pregnat women.

He stated that only children between the agesof 12 – 18 and pregnant women were the only groups were approved to take the vaccine.
