Police Service Commission Working Towards Appointment Of CoP And Deputy CoP By Year’s End

The Police Service Commission hopes to complete the process for the appointment of a Commissioner of Police by the end of 2022.

Under the Constitution, the responsibilities of the Police Service Commission include the appointment of persons to hold the office of Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Police and, on an annual basis, to prepare performance appraisal reports with respect to the persons holding those offices.

In a media release on Friday the Commission said it is at present engaged in both of these exercises.

With respect to its responsibility for the preparation of performance appraisal reports, the PolSC is now involved in the finalization of the performance appraisal report for the past Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gary Griffith.

In accordance with the established procedure the Commission is required to meet with Mr. Griffith in this regard.

Accordingly, on June 28, 2022, the PolSC met with former the Commissioner of Police to complete his performance evaluation for the period January to August 2021.

With respect to the appointment of persons to hold the office of Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners of Police, in accordance with the Constitution and the Legal Notices which prescribe the procedure to be followed, the PolSC has designed and developed a recruitment process.
