Police intercept suspect, recover stolen electronics in Rio Claro

Police have recovered stolen cash and a quantity of electronics yesterday following a report of Larceny from a family at a campsite in the district.

A 42-year-old suspect from Lazzari Village, Rio Claro, who fled the scene, was also intercepted by police and arrested in connection to the report.

He is currently detained at the Mayaro Police Station assisting detectives with their investigations.

According to police reports, at 12.30 pm on October 29th, 2023, a woman was at a camp located at Bristol Village, Mayaro, when she left $1400, one iPad Series 9, and one iPhone 12 Mini in a male relative’s truck which was parked on a track.

While returning to his truck, the relative saw a man walking away from the vehicle with items in his hand who later entered a Nissan Note and drove off in a westerly direction along the Naparima Mayaro Road, Bristol Village, Mayaro.

A report was made to police and the vehicle and suspect were later intercepted by Sgt Maharaj and party of the Rio Claro Criminal Investigations Department.

CID personnel conducted a comprehensive search of the vehicle and suspect during which they allegedly found a quantity of cash and a package reportedly stolen from the campsite.

A further search of the scene at Bristol Village, Mayaro, was conducted and two electronic items were also found in some bushes in the vicinity of where the suspect had parked his car.
