Pedestrian killed on CRH identified

The pedestrian killed in Thursday morning’s road fatality on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway has been identified as Naresh Ramgoolam of El Socorro.

Ramgoolam was allegedly an outpatient of St Ann’s Mental Hospital and was known to have frequented the streets in the area.

According to a police report, around 5.50 am, a driver of Santa Cruz was driving his brown Hyundai Tucson east along the highway on the extreme right lane when he collided with Ramgoolam who was crossing from south to north causing fatal injuries.

Police said that a second driver who was driving his blue Toyota Aqua also struck Ramgoolam as he fell on the road from the impact of the first vehicle.

The scene was processed by officers of the North Eastern Division and Crime Scene Investigations.

The body was viewed by the District Medical Officer who ordered its removal to the mortuary.

Both drivers went to the Barataria Police Station where their respective reports were taken.
