Officers involved in Belmont confrontation removed from active duty

The incident on Tuesday at Gloster Lodge Link Road in Gonzales, Belmont, where a child was allegedly hurt during a police arrest, is now being investigated by the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB).

During the incident, a group of police officers confronted two men, one of whom was holding a child.
After words were exchanged between one of the officers and the individual with the child, the officer then hits the man with the child, while another officer does a body search of the second man.

Another officer quickly takes the child from the man’s arms and he is thrown to the ground. The child is then handed to a female officer while police handcuff the man.

Just before he’s put into the police SUV trunk, another officer slams his face into the trunk door.

The child was reportedly wounded during the incident, and left with a swollen neck.

On Friday, Joanne Archie, head of the police corporate communications unit, said three police officers have been removed from active duty pending the outcome of the PSB investigation.
