Shiva Boys’ Hindu College to be renamed in Panday’s honour

The Shiva Boys’ Hindu College is to be remained the Basdeo Panday Shiva Boys’ Hindu College, in honour of former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday.

This decision was made by the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha (SDMS) following a central executive meeting on Thursday.

Members supported a proposal to rename the college to recognise the contributions of the late former prime minister.

SDMS Secretary General Vijay Maharaj put forward the proposal at the meeting, which featured a special tribute to Panday.

Legal Advisor to the SDMS, Chaguanas West MP Dinesh Rambally said the body consulted with Mickela Panday, who gave her blessing, in principle, for the school to be renamed in her father’s honour.

At the same time, she indicated that she would consult with the rest of the family on their views on the matter.
Rambally said while the resolution was passed and will be ratified in the organisation’s main meeting, the SDMS would move ahead with the ceremonial aspect of the renaming of the school only after full consultation with the Panday family.
