Passer-by alerts police to decomposing body of street dweller

A passer-by discovered the decomposing body of a man in San Fernando on Wednesday and police suspect that the body may be that of a street dweller.

Around 3 pm, officers of the Southern Division Task Force were on patrol when they were alerted by a passer-by of a foul stench in the area of a barricaded construction site at the corner of Keate and Gomez Streets, San Fernando near the old National cinema.

Upon investigation, the officers found a decomposing body down a precipice.

The body was that of a man of African descent, dark skin complexion and stockily built.
The man appeared to be in his 50s and was dressed in a blue t-shirt and black long jeans which were pulled down to his knees.

The police inquiries revealed that the man was a known street dweller.

An autopsy will be done at the Forensic Science Centre in Port of Spain. Investigations are continuing.
