Parliamentarians needed to effect significant change within the police service … Rowley

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley says that crime in T&T has been a problem for quite some time, which is why successive Governments have found it difficult to deal with the issue.

He said that one of the main issues has been finding someone who could lead the police service efficiently.

He was speaking at a media briefing at Whitehall on National Security this morning.

He referenced recommendations made in the document: ‘A Manpower Audit In The Police Service’ which was laid in the Parliament on November 11th 2017.

He said that the Government is guided by the information contained in the document.

He noted that Parliamentarians had to interfere with the constitution to effect change within the police service.

Dr Rowley stated that anything involving the police, such as a police inspectorate as recommended in the document must involve the constitution.
