Paria CoE hears retrieval company could not help men stuck in pipe

The Commission of Enquiry into the Paria drownings resumed today and the Commission heard that while attempts were made to engage the services of a Company that specialized in the retrieval of persons from tight spaces, they were unable to assist in the rescue of the trapped divers.

Eastern Emergency Response Services Chief of Operations Andy Johnson revealed that he was indeed contacted by Heritage to engage in an operation to remove the divers.

He said that he was not informed that the pipe was flooded with water and only found out that information later.

He said that he was unable to provide the Company’s services given the fact that information as his workers were not equipped to provide that type of assistance.

Attorney Prakash Ramadar seemingly dissatisfied with his response questioned him on his expertise.

As things heated up between the two Commission Chairman Jerome Lynch intervened, assessing that had Mr Johnson been given all of the information when he was called in the first place he would have simply said no.
