Ousted Pharmacy Board President says election was not legally conducted

Incumbent president of the Pharmacy Board, Andrew Rahaman, claims the recent election of a new board was not legally conducted and he intends to seek the court’s intervention.

Following the election on Thursday, newly appointed president Clinton Sahadeo, told reporters everything was done according to the constitution and that he anticipated such a move from Rahaman.

However, Rahaman told media: “They say they have a president, let them say so. I am heading to court. I want the court to say that I am still the president so I wouldn’t circumvent the authority of the court like how they (the new leadership team) circumvented my authority,” Rahaman said.

Joining Sahadeo on the new executive is Junia Walcott as secretary. They are both Ministry of Health representatives on the council. Rahaman said he is unsure if the two appointees could hold such roles but will seek clarity on it from the court.

“It is highly irregular in my mind. It has never happened but I am the lecturer on Pharmacy Board law for 29 years so I don’t think it is prevented but we are looking for grounds to see if it is,” he said.

Rahaman said he will also be filing a defamation suit.
