Massy Energy to help repatriate NiQuan accident victim from Colombia

Massy Energy Engineered Solutions Ltd is working with the Colombian authorities and family members for the repatriation of the body of Allanlane Ramkissoon.

Ramkissoon, a pipefitter for the company, died on June 18 while being treated for burns following an incident at the NiQuan plant in Point-a-Pierre on June 15.

Massy Energy said in a release: “Please know that our thoughts remain with Allanlane’s family and colleagues during this challenging time, and we are here for them.”

“We also recognise, the profound impact this tragic incident has had on Allanlane’s colleagues, and we are ensuring that they too receive the care and assistance they need to navigate this difficult period,” the company said.

The company added that it is committed to transparency and has a team involved in NiQuan’s internal investigation.

“At the same time, we are cooperating in a broader investigation initiated by OSHA and other regulatory bodies. We are committed to getting a detailed understanding of the main causes of this tragic incident and where appropriate, embedding within our business any lessons or improvements that may come out of the process,” the release continued.

OSHA issued an order to shut down operations (prohibition order) at the plant on Wednesday pending the investigation. That day, Energy Minister Stuart Young also announced the start of a multi-sector investigation into what happened that day at the plant.
