Opposition MP urges gov’t to assist communities in eradicating HIV/AIDS

Opposition MP, Dr Rai Ragbir is urging government to assist communities in the fight against HIV/AIDS and also place focus on the influx of migrants to T&T.

The call comes from the Cumuto/Manzanilla MP in his message for this year’s commemoration of World Aids Day.

Dr Ragbir says some of the people who have fled Venezuela left, in part, due to a collapsed health system.

He is raising questions about the number of these people who would have been able to access HIV testing, as well as those who would have had intimate relations with members of the local population, with or without knowledge of being HIV positive.

Dr Ragbir believes this is one critical matter that government must attend to, if gains made over the last decade in slowing HIV transmission are to be sustained.

World AIDS Day 2023 is being commemorated under the theme “Let Communities Lead.”
