Opposition Leader Defends Motion Following Defeat In Electoral College Vote.

The Opposition Leader is strongly defending the motion brought against President Paula Mae Weekes which was eventually defeated during the voting stage at the meeting of the Electoral College on Thursday.

Member of Parliament for Siparia, Kamla Persad Bissessar, started her news briefing Thursday afternoon, explaining the two hundred and fifty word motion brought against her Excellency.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar claimed that at meeting of the Electoral College, each time an Opposition MP rose to speak their microphones were muted, stopping the voices of elected representatives of the people which also impaired  the record keeping of the parliament.

The MP said the Standing Orders has a word limit on motions before the parliament, adding the process allows for grounds for the motion to be presented, particulars for the motion are brought forward and in the debate it is developed.
