One Person Applied Seventy-Four Times In Bid To Get State Grant Help In 2022

One person applied seventy-four times in a bid to get grants from the state following flooding in November 2022.

This was revealed by Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Donna Cox, in the Senate Friday as she explained there was duplication of applications for various grants.

Some of the grants made available to the public include temporary assistance, food support, house hold grants and school grants.

Minister Cox said some of the challenges encountered during the process were multiple persons from the same household applying for grants that are limited to one per household.

This situation led to the Ministry having to carry out extensive verification procedures to determine the house hold composition.

Missing or inaccurate information captured on the assessments completed by the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government was another problem faced during the process.
