No plans to reintroduce corporal punishment says PM

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley says there are no plans to re-introduce corporal punishment into schools despite his concern over the recent incidents of school violence.

He made the comment while speaking at the Piarco International Airport following his return from a meeting with CARICOM and US officials in Barbados.

Dr Rowley noted that he understands the social reintegration issues which may accompany the return to physical schooling.

However he warned that this does not excuse violent behavior.

The Prime Minister also called on parents to ensure that children understand that actions have consequences.

Asked if there were any plans to re-introduce corporal punishment as a form of discipline in schools, Dr Rowley had this to say.
