National Security Minister Expresses Confidence In Newly Formed National Operations Task Force

Confidence is expressed the National Operations Task Force will be able to have a positive impact in the fight against crime.

The NOTF will replace the Special Operations Response Team (SORT).

This optimism was indicated by Minister of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds, as he responded to a question posed by Opposition Senator, Wade Mark on the expected impact the NOTF will have on crime and security in Trinidad and Tobago.

The National Security Minister said the Task Force will consist of specialised trained officers from the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.

Minister Hinds said the new entity will now have a proper administrative structure which will engender a high level of accountability.

Senator Mark, in a supplemental question, wanted to know what information locally and internationally would have influenced the Acting Commissioner of Police to take the decision to no longer continue the operations of SORT.
