MSJ Condemns “Attack On Brazilian Democracy”

The Movement for Social Justice is condemning the attack on institutions of Brazilian democracy – the Parliament and Presidential buildings among them – that took place on Sunday.

MSJ in a media release says it also stands in total solidarity with the constitutionally elected and installed President of Brazil – Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, his political party – the Workers’ Party of Brazil; the progressive social movements of Brazil and the vast majority of the Brazilian people who are defending democracy at this critical moment in their country’s history.

The MSJ said it is extremely concerned about what seems now to be an international trend by extreme right wing forces to take violent action to prevent a democratically elected government from fulfilling its responsibilities to their people.

It said these actions must be condemned in the strongest possible manner by all who are committed to freedom and progress.
