MoH advises of recall of 33 lots of Vancomycin, Phenylephrine and Fentanyl IV Bags

The Health Ministry is advising of a recall of 33 lots of Vancomycin, Phenylephrine and Fentanyl IV Bags.

It says the bags are being recalled as they may contain twice the recommended amount of drug.

High doses of the substances can have many adverse effects including serious adverse cardiac events, respiratory depression, and even death.

The Ministry says the products were distributed within the US for administration in hospitals – they are not registered for use in T&T and no permits have been issued for the importation of Vancomycin and Fentanyl.

It adds however that out of an abundance of caution, those who may be in possession of the recalled product are advised to discontinue use immediately and to return the product to the place of purchase where possible.
