One of the most beloved Calypso classics of all time ‘Obeah Wedding- Melda’ by the Mighty Sparrow, has been featured prominently in an Apple + streaming tv series called The Changeling”. The Changeling is an American horror-fantasy television series created by Kelly Marcel and directed by Melina Matsoukas based on the novel of the same name by Victor LaValle for Apple TV+. The series premiered on September 8, 2023, with the first three episodes, starring LaKeith Stanfield as Apollo Kagwa, a used book dealer, Adina Porter as Lillian Kagwa, Apollo’s mother, Alexis Louder as young Lillian Kagwa and Clark Backo as Emma “Emmy” Valentine, Apollo’s pregnant wife.
In episode one, a scene in which a couple is driving through a sparsely populated area, and stopped by soldiers. and Sparrow’s classic ‘Melda’ is playing, with the characters singing along.
