Mayaro MP, Rushton Paray is calling on the Ministry of Works and Transport, Ministry of Rural Development, including the Coastal Erosion Unit, to immediately undertake sustainable remedial works, after the single road in Mayaro leading to critical national security and telecommunications infrastructure collapsed.

A release from the MP today, said the entire Point Radix Road has been cut away as a result of recent heavy rains and the ongoing impact of coastal erosion.

Paray met with representatives of key stakeholders at the impacted area site today and apart from the telecommunications companies, there were representatives from Radix Nature Resort, Bovell Estate, and nearby farmers.

Engineers of Mayaro-Rio Claro Regional Corporation were also present at the urgent meeting.

MP Paray is now calling on the Ministry of Works and Transport, Ministry of Rural Development, including the Coastal Erosion Unit, to immediately undertake sustainable remedial works on the crucial road.

The MP further advised that there must be measures to halt and reverse dramatic soil movement at the base of Point Radix hill.

Failure to do so could lead to crippling and long-lasting effects on crucial national infrastructural networks.
