Mask Mandate Remains In Place For Now, Says CMO

The mask wearing mandate in Trinidad and Tobago, at this time, will remain in effect.

However, there will be review of the policy in July.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr Roshan Parasram, made the comments while speaking at the weekly covid-19 news briefing on Wednesday.

Dr Parasram took note of some countries deciding to discontinue the public use of wearing mask.

But Dr Parasram said to remove the mandate at this point will be contrary to the evidence local health experts have before them.

Dr Parasram said recommendations will be made to the Prime Minister as it relates to various public health interventions, and for masking it was recommended it remain in place at this point in time.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, said at this stage of the Covid-19 pandemic the government will not take any action as a result of giving in to public pressure but will be responsible in how it handles the issue of mask wearing.
