March 2023 Timeline For Legisaltion To Mandate Licensing Requirements For Children’s Homes and Residences

March 2023 is the proposed timeframe being given for legislation to mandate the licensing requirements for children’s homes and residences be fully proclaimed.

This update comes from Acting Leader of Government Business, Paula Gopee Scoon, in the Senate on Tuesday afternoon.Mrs. Gopee Scoon gave details on the various standards which must be met by the homes and the monitoring process of such institutions.

The government was asked whether children living in the homes identified in the report have been provided with counseling; whether persons who may be involved in the abuse of children at these homes have been sent on administrative leave pending the outcome of investigations; and whether care protocols at these homes have been audited to ensure that the appropriate standard of care is being maintained.

Minister Gopee Scoon explained the reasoning of government choosing the march time period adding sufficient room is being given to ensure compliance is met.
