Man found guilty of Wasteful Employment of the Police

Junior Rowley, 61, was arrested and charged by officers of the Tunapuna Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday 1st February 2021 for wasteful employment of the police.

On Monday 18th January 2021 Rowley made a report to the Tunapuna Police Station, stating that he met Mr. Renaldo John at Republic Bank, Tunapuna, and handed over $TT158,000 to John, who promised to exchange the money for US dollars. Rowley further stated that Mr. John entered the bank to conduct the transaction, and he, Rowley never saw Mr. John again.

PC Williams was detailed to conduct the investigations. He reviewed statements, CCTV footage, and interviewed Rowley. He subsequently charged Rowley for wasteful employment of the police.
On Monday 1st February, Rowley pleaded guilty and was fined $1,000 at the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court.
