Khadijah wants gov’t to provide school book grants to unemployed parents

Government has been asked to make the School Textbooks Grant available for parents who suffered a loss of earnings due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The call has been issued by St Augustine MP Khadijah Ameen.

She said currently, the Grant helps students who lost their school supplies to natural disasters including fire, floods and hurricanes.

However, Ameen stated that with the new school term scheduled to start in September, many parents remain unemployed and unable to afford books for their children’s continued learning.

She is calling on the Ministers of Social Welfare and Education to collaborate and put measures in place to ensure students have access to all textbooks, stationary and supplies, as well as uniforms.
