Kamla: PM has no plans to deal with Covid situation

“Long on words but woefully short on ideas.”
That’s the way Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar described the Prime Minister’s Address to the nation on Thursday night.

In a press release, Persad-Bissessar wrote that Dr Keith Rowley’s appeal to citizens at this time rings hollow, especially on the same day when the highest amount of deaths were recorded.

She said the close to one-hour long address failed to provide any hope or comfort to citizens and has no plan to deal with the situation.

She said since this pandemic began the Government’s policy prescriptions have revolved around three areas: –
One, asking citizens to “follow the science” but without providing any data: two, congratulating themselves without any justification and three—dismissing all critics as “naysayers” or “unpatriotic.”

Persad-Bissessar added, “It is unacceptable that the Rowley led Government is comfortable doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results,” she wrote.
She sent prayers to those affected and said “Our nation simply cannot go on like this.”

According to Persad-Bissessar, sound leadership and decisive action are needed to mitigate the current crisis.
