Just over 2,700 children register for MoE’s Vacation Revision Programme

The Ministry of Education’s (MOE) Vacation Revision Programme (VRP) begins on Monday 18th July, 2022, however, it will have less than 30 percent of the students that they were hoping to attend.

According to statement from the Ministry on Friday, the VRP will begin Monday at thirty-three (33) centres across Trinidad and runs until August 12th, 2022.

It noted that just over 2700 students have registered.

That is a very poor figure, as the MoE was aiming for the over 9,000 students who scored less than 50 per cent in the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) examination this year and will be starting secondary school in September.

The aim of the programme is to help these students prepare for that transition from primary school.

“This programme, specifically designed for students scoring less than 50 per cent in the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) of 2022, provides support in the form of targeted revision in Mathematics, English Language Arts and Writing. Students will also partake in activities such as music and drama, and all students will be provided with breakfast and lunch over the course of the programme,” the ministry stated.

“Teachers selected for the VRP received guidance from the Curriculum Planning and Development Division (CPPD) with respect to the specific areas of the curriculum to be addressed over the four-week period.”

In addition to academic and visual and performing arts (VAPA) content, psychosocial support will also be provided to students and parents through the Student Support Services Division at the VRP.

The Ministry of Education stated that as an added bonus, it is piloting an ‘educational’ caravan themed “Turn Up, Don’t Give Up”, aimed at inspiring students in the VRP to stay the course and push forward despite whatever academic, social or economic challenges they currently face.

The caravan will team up with social media, entertainment, sporting and community-based influencers, who will share their journey with the students to inspire and motivate them.

Parents are advised that schools designated as VRP Centres will accept walk-in registration of students for the VRP during the week of July 18th -22nd, 2022.
