Jamaican Legend Shaggy Performs as Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’s’ Sebastian

The 51-year-old Jamaican reggae musician and actor took the stage as Sebastian for Disney’s The Little Mermaid’s famous “Under the Sea” number live from Los Angeles on November 5th.

Shaggy brought an authentic sound to the beloved Caribbean crab character, which along with other roles, has been known to go to American actors with assumed accents. The live-action fairy tale, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, aired on the ABC television network.

For his costume, Shaggy kept things cool in a red, leather shirt and matching red pants as he took on the role of Sebastian for the show.

This never-before-seen hybrid format featured beautifully intricate sets and costumes, with music from the original animated film and the Tony Award-nominated Broadway stage version, originally composed by eight-time Oscar®-winning composer, Alan Menken. Howard Ashman’s iconic film lyrics will also be showcased, while lyricist for the Broadway adaptation, Glenn Slater, will contribute to the star-studded spectacular. ”

Watch Shaggy perform “Under the Sea” on The Little Mermaid Live! on ABC.
