J.Lo hire’s hip-hops heavyweights to craft her first solo album in a decade

Jennifer Lopez has called in the Hip Hop heavyweights to help with her first solo album in nearly 10 years.

Billboard is reporting that Lopez is releasing the album under a deal she signed with BMG on Monday (September 11). The deal also includes the release of her new album, This is Me…Now, under her Nuyorican/BMG imprint.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with her and her team to release her first album in nearly a decade,” said Thomas Coesfeld, BMG’s CEO in a statement to Billboard. “We are both excited and proud to partner with Jennifer Lopez on this long-awaited sequel to ‘This is Me… Then.’ Clearly written with love and through experience, ‘This Is Me..Now’ is uplifting and inspiring. ‘Jenny From The Block’ is back at a point in her career when her message is bigger than ever.”

The album is due to be a sequel to her album, This is Me…Then, which was released in November 2002. The sequel was recorded in 2022 and 2023 in Lopez’s home, and will feature production from Hitboy, Ink, Tay Keith, Yeti Beats, Carter Lang, and Kim “Kaydence” Krysiuk.

While this is the first album that Jennifer Lopez has released in nearly a decade, she has been periodically releasing music through the years.

However, she’s been better known for her acting than her music in recent years, as the success of her 2019 film, Hustlers, proved.

Lopez was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Hustlers, marking the first time she’s received a Golden Globe nomination in over 20 years. In 1998, she was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture ― Musical or Comedy for her starring role in the biopic Selena.

Back in December 2019, Lopez reacted to the latest recognition for her acting work via Instagram.

“Could not be prouder to be recognized by the #HFPA,” she wrote. “Ramona was a complicated character and it was an honor and challenge to bring her to life. Hustlers was a labor of love, sweat and perseverance written, directed, produced, edited and starring a group of bad-ass women. I am proud and honored to represent them and this film!!!! @goldenglobes #HustlersMovie #Ramona.”
