A woman who was said to be intoxicated, was shot and wounded during a confrontation with police in Santa Cruz on Sunday night.
Around 11pm, police responded to a report of a disturbance during a wedding at Drew Manor.
Upon arrival, they observed the 21-year-old woman who was heavily intoxicated.
The woman was detained and placed in the back of a police vehicle. However, while there she grabbed a wooden baton that was in the car and attacked the officers.
She then exited the car and began threatening the officers and damaged the police vehicle.
When one of the officers pulled out their firearm, the woman struck his hand, causing the weapon to discharge. The woman was shot.
The woman, who is a security guard and a mother, was then taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital for treatment.
