Indarsingh: Gov’t undermining WASA under the guise of restructuring

The Keith Rowley-led PNM has been accused of attacking labour and undermining prosperity under the guise of restructuring.

This according to Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh, following the latest revelation by Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales that the Human Resource Advisory Committee of Cabinet is reviewing the proposed compensation packages for two hundred and twenty-six (226) executive leadership personnel at WASA.

In a media release today, the Opposition shadow minister of labour said instead of putting all WASA workers on the breadline, the PNM should instead tell the truth regarding the identities of those involved in “racket” at WASA.

“Who are the managers not delivering on the company targets? Who is involved in fraud as it relates to contracts, water supply, overtime or any of the other issues the PNM has accused WASA of?”

MP Indarsingh said every week, a different part of the country protests about a lack of water in their area. “In my own constituency of Couva South, people still call me weekly about taps left dry by the PNM.”

He said, “Instead of penalizing the individual perpetrators, Dr Rowley, Marvin Gonzales and the PNM instead choose to victimize decent and hardworking WASA workers. Because of Rowley’s lethargic impotence in dealing with troublesome elements at WASA, the good elements will have to pay along with the wicked.”

He said the question to be answered by the Minister of Finance, Colm Imbert, and Minister of Public Utilities Marvin Gonzales is whether they intend to pay severance and/or salaries at WASA by burdening the country with more debt.
