Hosein: Organised gangs, hits called from inside prison worsening crime situation!

Barataria / San Juan MP Saddam Hosein says there has been an increase in criminal activity in his constituency.

He says he’s doubtful that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service will get a handle on gangs becoming more organised in T&T.

He says reprisal killings related to gangs account for many of the recent shootings and attacks.

Just yesterday five people escaped injury after their home in Morvant was firebombed.

Police say they’re investigating the firebombing incident and they suspect it may be related to ongoing warfare between rival gangs.

CCTV footage of the incident has been shared widely on social media.

Another video showing men in bandanas moving through Valsayn and jumping walls has also been circulating.

Hosein said the situation is unsatisfactory.

The UNC MP said there are media reports this morning of hits being called by gang leaders from inside jail concerning the awarding of CEPEP contracts.

He claimed non-functional interceptors and jammers at the nation’s prisons were to blame.

He stated another deterrent to crime fighting that must be addressed is the issue of the unavailability of functional CCTV cameras.
