Health Ministry Issues Update on COVID-19 Vaccination For T&T’s Pregnant Population

The Ministry of Health says as part of its expanded national COVID-19 vaccination rollout, members of the pregnant population have access to specific COVID-19 vaccines.

The public, especially the pregnant population, is therefore advised that:

If a pregnant woman received a first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine before pregnancy, she will be given two (2) doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine during pregnancy, once she is in her 2nd or 3rd trimester of pregnancy. She will be considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. A second dose of the Sinopharm vaccine will NOT be required upon completion of the pregnancy.

The previous guidance for a woman who received a first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine before pregnancy remains uncharged – she is eligible for a single dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine as her second dose, once she is in her 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy, and will be considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the second vaccine dose.

The Ministry notes that as scientific data evolves, this advice may change.
