Government To Acquire 300 Electric Buses For PTSC

The government plans to acquire 300 electric buses for use in this country.

Minister of Works and Transport, Rohan Sinanan, revealed the information during the sitting of the Standing Finance Committee of Parliament on Monday.

This, he said, will bring the overall fleet of the Public Transport Service Corporation to 550.

At present there are 385 buses in the PTSC.

Two hundred and forty-seven are operational.

One hundred and forty-one of the buses are at different stages of maintenance.

Twenty-one of the buses will be deposed off.

Meanwhile, Opposition Senator, Khadijah Ameen, raised concerns about the number of routes where the service has been discontinued and in the context of safety of women and children.

This year the Ministry of Works and Transport has been allocated 2.4 billion dollars.
