Government Must Act Now On Copper Theft, Urges MP Paray

Businesses, households, and students are being affected as copper criminals in addition to severing telephone services are also disrupting internet connectivity.

This development was highlighted by Opposition Member of Parliament for Mayaro, Rushton Paray.

MP Paray is urging the Government to work with the Scrap Iron Dealers Association to bring an end to what it describes as this senseless destruction of vital infrastructural resources.

In a media release on Tuesday, MP Paray said like in many other areas of the country, criminals are stealing copper cables to retail to the scrap iron industry and in the process; fibre optic cables are also victims of these attacks.

The release said Cable Television providers are also adversely impacted, requiring technical crews to be dispatched often in the middle of the night, to restore service.
