Geneticist says Omicron variant may already be in T&T

Geneticist Dr Nicole Ramlachan says there is a possibility that T&T already has a case of the Omicron COVID variant.

This as she noted that the increased transmissibility of the newly discovered variant.

Speaking with Power 102 Digital this morning, she noted the speed with which the variant has travelled across the globe with cases found as far East as Hong Kong and as far West as  the United States.

Asked if she thought it had already arrived in Trinidad she had this to say.

Citing the early results of research into the virus, she noted that it the most mutated variant and almost certainly the most transmissible version of the virus thus far.

However she pointed out that anecdotal evidence shows that it is not the deadliest variant as the symptoms displayed by persons with this variant appear to be mild.
