Firearms, ammo and drugs seized during anti-crime exercise

Several suspects were arrested and firearms, a quantity of ammunition and drugs seized during exercises conducted across police divisions.

In an anti-crime exercise conducted in Area South of the Central Division, between the hours of 9am to 2pm yesterday, officers of the Central Division Task Force, based on intelligence, searched several known drug blocks and persons within the Couva and Freeport Police Districts.Nothing illegal was found.

While searching a busy area along the Calcutta #3 Mc Bean road in an unoccupied of land, a black plastic bag was found bag under a heap of grass containing a firearm. The firearm was secured and taken to the Couva Police Station.

Across in the sister Isle, officers of the Tobago Division executed a search warrant for Firearm and Ammunition at a home in Shelbourne Street Plymouth. During the exercise the suspect took the officers to the Northern side of the house and pointed to a bed. The officers conducted a search and a Glock 19 Pistol and 14 rounds of 9 mm ammunition was found. PC Baker arrested the suspect and conveyed him to the Scarborough Police Station pending further enquires.

Officers of the Morvant Police Station in the North Eastern Division, during an intelligence led exercise, went to 7th Avenue Malick, Barataria where a search of a bushy unoccupied parcel of land was conducted and hidden in a bamboo patch, a black plastic bag containing a quantity marijuana wrapped in a brown plastic with a weight of 251 grams was found and seized. No one was arrested with said find.

Northern Division officers recovered a .38 special revolver when they conducted anticrime exercises between 11pm on Friday 10th March 2023 to 3:30am on Saturday March 11th, 2023. During the exercise special attention was paid to Joseph Avenue, Malabar Train Line, Ackbarali East and West and Highly Avenue, officers found the firearm on the north-eastern side of the Malabar Early Childhood Care and Education Centre, in close proximity to the fence. The firearm was seized.

In the Port of Spain Division, officers based on information received proceeded to Duncan Street Port of Spain, where they apprehended a male resident of Bldg. 34 Apt. D Duncan Street, Port of Spain on Outstanding Affiliation Warrants in the sum of $84,000. The suspect was conveyed to the Morvant Police Station where he is assisting officers with further investigations.

Investigations are ongoing.
