Fire has damaged the Plaza 2001 Shopping Mall on the Chaguanas Main Road.
Fire officers received a call at around 9 am and on arrival, noticed a fire on the first floor of the building.
However, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Lalchan Arjoon, who was at the scene, said they would have commenced firefighting operations but needed additional resources.
He said they had to mobilise additional resources from the central and northern division.
“The fire was adequately controlled. It was confined to the building. We didn’t get any fire spread to additional buildings.
No word yet on how the blaze began or the estimated cost of damage.
