Fiery protest in St Joseph following police involved shooting

A man identified as ‘Jimpy’ was allegedly shot and killed by police during an incident in St Joseph on Thursday.

The shooting occurred in an area known as Bangladesh, near the abandoned Curepe Junior Secondary School.

Residents said that around 4.30 p.m., Elron Hackett, aka “Jimpy”, was working on a house in the area when police approached and shot him.

They said he was unarmed.

However, the police alleged that they were confronted by the suspect, who was armed.

The residents threw debris on the bus route last evening, which they then lit as they protested against the alleged police-involved shooting.
