Farmer, 42, arrested- assault rifle seized

A 42-year old farmer was arrested and charged for possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was arrested by officers of the Longdenville Police Post on Monday 1st March, 2021.

The exercise was conducted by Insp. Jaggernath, Sgt. Harriot and Pc Krishna.
Based on information received, the officers intercepted a black Mitsubishi Lancer along Thompson Road, Carlsen Field, and conducted a search of the vehicle.

In the front passenger side of the vehicle, one AR 15 riffle fitted with a magazine and eight rounds of 5.56 millimetre ammunition were allegedly found.

The driver, 42- year old Sunil Balliram, of Thompson Road, Palmiste, was arrested and charged.

He is expected to appear virtually at the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court today to answer to the charges.
