EBC gives in! UNC to witness sorting of Special Voter Ballots

Chief Elections Officer of the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC), Fern Narcis-Scope, has reversed her decision to blank the UNC from seeing the sorting of Special Voter Ballots.

Ms. Narcis-Scope communicated her decision to not allow the UNC to witness the sorting of these special ballots, via telephone to the UNC on August 8th.

However, in a turn-around late last evening, the EBC Chief said the UNC will be allowed to witness the sorting of Special Voter Ballots on Friday 11 August 2023 at the EBC Head Office.

The EBC, via a statement, suggested that in the time period between a verbal conversation between the Opposition leader, Persad-Bissessar and the commission, earlier on Tuesday, and the UNC leader’s dispatch of a letter to the commission later that day, the EBC had decided to agree to her request.

The UNC had formally written to Ms. Narcis-Scope to ask her to reconsider her position, and respond by 12:00 noon Wednesday 9 August.
