Construction of the Diego Martin Overpass totalled to TT$185,479,000

The National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NIDCO) provides the following update on the construction of the new Diego Martin Vehicular Overpass:

(1) The design and construction of the Diego Martin Vehicular Overpass, in the vicinity of Powder Magazine, is being undertaken by the joint venture of China Railway Construction Caribbean Limited and Junior Sammy Contractors Limited.

(2) Procurement for these works were undertaken through an open tendering process in 2019. The contract sum is TT$185,479,000.

(3) The lands located at the corner of Diego Martin Highway and Western Main Road are owned by the Port-of-Spain Corporation. In August 2020, the Port-of-Spain Corporation granted temporary permission to the Ministry of Works and Transport to use this property as the Contractor’s operating site.

The structures that have been erected at this location are the Contractor’s site office, workers’ accommodation, warehouse and storage areas. A similar arrangement for the use of the property for these purposes was put in place for the construction of the Curepe Interchange.

(4) Once the project is completed, the lands will be restored to their original condition, including the removal of all structures.
NIDCO remains committed to conducting transparent and competitive procurement processes.
