Claxton Bay teen charged with manslaughter

A 16-year-old youth from Claxton Bay was charged with manslaughter, possession of a firearm, and possession of ammunition in connection with the death of Tamika Griffith, which occurred on Tuesday 9th February, 2021.

The teen was charged on Thursday 25th February, 2021, following the advice of Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Ms Joan Honore-Paul.

Around 2:50pm on Tuesday 9th February, 2021 police responded to a wireless transmission of loud explosions at Sookoo Trace, Claxton Bay. Upon arrival, the officers met the accused at the scene.

The officers then made a check and observed Tamika Griffith gasping for breath while slumped on a brown wooden couch, with an apparent gunshot wound to her head. Insp Ramlogan observed and retrieved one nine-millimetre calibre spent casing in the said living room and handed over same to PC Mahadeo.

PC Mahadeo and WPC Alexander conveyed the injured girl to the San Fernando General Hospital, where whilst being medically treated succumbed to her injuries around 4.10 pm.

Police conducted enquiries, interviewed the 16-year-old teen and arrested him on the same date. He was released pending further investigations. He was rearrested on February 24th.
