CCHR Calls On T&T Gov’t To Take Proactive Approach In Dealing With Migrant Influx

The Caribbean Centre for Human Rights says it understands the influx of migrants and refugees present a number of challenges to the government of Trinidad and Tobago.

However, the government is told it cannot afford to ignore the issue and is expect it will manage itself – a proactive approach is required.

The CCHR, in a statement,  said a number of organisations who possess the technical expertise, resources and capacity to address migration and refugee related issues have consistently expressed their readiness and willingness to support the state with its obligations to protect refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.

It claimed they have not been consulted on this migration/refugee policy.

CCHR urged the government to act with haste to address the issues and it also stand ready to support any efforts the government may undertake to protect the human rights of migrants and refugees.
