An Opposition MP Calls For Issues Affecting Schools And Students To Be Urgently Addressed

One Opposition Member of Parliament is appealing for action to be taken by the government to address critical issues such as student overcrowding, staffing shortages, school infrastructure maintenance, declining student performance rates and provisions for students with special needs.

The appeal comes from Member of Parliament for Tabaquite, Anita Haynes.

Her concerns have been raised in the context of recent public outcry concerning secondary schools requesting voluntary financial contributions upon student registration.

The Minister of Education has instructed schools to desist from this practice.

However, MP Haynes believes there is need for the government to  inform stakeholders – parents, students and school administrations  how it intends to address the shortage of resources faced by many secondary schools,”.
