A Former Police Commissioner Calls For TT’s Interest To Be Forefront In Crime Fight

Anyone who hopes Police Commissioner Erla Harewood Christopher fails in her present position for political gain, does not care about their country.

This is the view of Former Police Commissioner, Gary Griffith, who commented on Harewood Christopher’s extension.

Speaking on the Power Breakfast Show Friday morning, he said  it would be in everyone’s best interest if she were successful.

He said persons are trying to measure her performance based on crime statistics but this is a flawed concept.

Commenting on concerns officers of the TTPS were unavailable to respond to citizens’ complaints because of mobile issues, Griffith said part of a successful plan by the Police Commissioner would include solutions to this problem.

He said the practice of going to a police station physically to report a crime is an outdated type of policing.

There are many different reliable avenues that are used worldwide to report crimes that should be employed in Trinidad and Tobago one of which is online reporting.

He said he had many complaints when he was in the post of persons who were treated badly when they went to report a crime at a police station.
